Although the attractions of Yorkshire as a whole are well known, the particular charms of Huddersfield and Kirklees are less renowned amongst those unfamiliar with the area. Which is surprising. Amongst other facts, outside London, Kirklees is second only to Bath in the number of listed buildings it contains.
Greenhead College in the town has come top of the league table for sixth form results for a number of years now and Huddersfield University is one of the fastest growing and most forward thinking centres of higher education in the country.

Castle Hill, almost impossible to miss whichever way one approaches the town, is a scheduled ancient monument to rival Glastonbury Tor.
For the culturally minded, the Lawrence Batley Theatre provides an eclectic programme in one of the finest of Huddersfield's listed buildings.
Add to this the neighbouring Peak District National Park and the fact that Leeds and Manchester are within easy commuting distance and it is easy to see why those fortunate enough to live in the area are quite happy for it to remain something of a secret.
